Organisation

FEGENTRI stands for Fédération Internationale des Gentlemen-Riders et des Cavalières or in English, International Federation of Gentlemen and Lady Riders. It was founded in 1955 by a handful of enthusiastic amateur riders. The founding members were France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland. Many nations have joined FEGENTRI since 1955 and today the membership consists of 25 different countries.

International Activities of FEGENTRI

The main purpose of FEGENTRI is to promote international races for amateur riders. FEGENTRI organises two World Championships, one confined to gentlemen riders and the other to lady riders, comprising approximately 60 races run in different countries around the world. World Championship races for gentlemen-riders are run on the flat as well as over jumps, whereas the races for lady riders are restricted to the flat.

FEGENTRI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The best amateur riders of each member country of FEGENTRI qualify to participate in the World Championships and they all feel very honoured and privileged to represent their respective countries. They are all “amateurs” and therefore do not receive any fee for riding in races. Amateur riders competing in FEGENTRI World Championship races come from varied backgrounds and all have a full time profession. Among competitors, one my find bankers, students, policemen and even a vicar! They are all united by a common passion for horseracing.

The Fegentri World Championship for Gentlemen Riders 2013 finished in Doha in Qatar and the final races were on 11th and 12th December. 13 gentlemen riders from 11 different countries rode in the race on 11th (Thoroughbred) that was won by Naif Al Hajri from Qatar.

Qatari rider Naif Al Hajri turned out to be the star amongst the Fegentri Gentlemen Riders in the Thoroughbred Conditions race, run over nine furlongs. The talented Qatari jockey Naif Al Hajri took Ibrahim Al Malki saddled One Cool Bex to the front and made every post a winning one as he checked in well clear of Star Deal and Impound. Gentlemen Riders from all over the world were part of the line-up, but it was Naif who dominated the race from the start.

German gentleman rider Dennis Schiergen clinched his first win in Qatar while steering  Mohammed Hamad Al Attiya-trained Bin Amer (Amer-Ismala) to a commanding victory in the Pure Arabian Conditions event, which was the Championship race for Fegentri Gentleman Riders. Harran (Kevin Tobin up) was a faraway second ahead of Al Jeali who ran on to take the third spot.

We will be back for the international weekend in February with the Fegentri lady and gentlemen riders. All of them are eager to return here as this is such a wonderful place with brilliant facilities,” said Nathalie Belinguier President of Fegentri.

20 different races were the different legs of the Fegentri World Championship throughout 2013 with races in Oman on 1st January, Qatar in February and for the Final in December, France, Ireland, England, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, England and United States of America.
